Why don't we distil our own whisky?
Frank Leichsenring and Thomas Michalski have been friends for decades and are both whisky lovers. The remark "Why don't we distil our own whisky?" stuck with both friends. The question had been around for a long time and matured over the years, just as a good whisky has to mature over the years. In 2019, the time had come and the idea was put into practice.
Study trips to Scotland were undertaken in order to gain inspiration directly on site in the home of whisky, which was necessary for the implementation of one's own idea.
In January 2019, the Dresdner Whisky Manufaktur was founded and a little later the HELLINGER brand was registered.
In spring 2020, advertising expert Uwe Löscher and communications specialist Rainer Kern joined the founding team. What they all have in common is their passion for good whisky.
A location in Dresden's Alberthafen was found as a home for the Dresden Whisky Manufactory and the building is currently being converted to meet the needs of the distillery. Outside, the construction work is almost complete. Inside, the visitor centre and tasting room have been completed and the brewing and distilling equipment is currently being installed and is expected to be completed in January 2022.
