Presentation of Winzeredition No 4 - Winery Hoflößnitz

The Saxon Winegrowers' Edition - the idea

The DDV media group, selected Saxon winegrowers and the Dresdner Whisky Manufaktur have realised a joint idea. Together, they are creating whiskies that could not be more regional.

Seven winegrowers along the Saxon Wine Route each provide two of their best casks for the post-maturing of the HELLINGER 42 single malt whisky. This results in unique whiskies that reflect the regional diversity of Saxony.

Edition 4 - Winery Hoflößnitz

On 15 November 2023, Dresdner Whisky Manufaktur presented Edition No. 4 of the Saxon Winegrowers' Edition, which was refined in Cabernet red casks from the Hoflößnitz organic winery in Radebeul.

"We were happy to approach Saxony's only city winery for the current edition," says Jörg Hans, master distiller and managing director of Dresdner Whisky Manufaktur. "The fact that it is also Saxony's only organic winery makes things particularly interesting - even if this means that the 'Hoflößnitz' whisky has not become organic whisky."

"We brought two empty barrique barrels, in which we stored our Cabernet Rot for two years, to the Dresden manufactory and waited eagerly for the result," says Jörg Hahn, Managing Director of "Weingut Hoflößnitz GmbH". "Seven-year-old whisky, matured for five years in a bourbon cask and then another twelve months in a Hoflößnitz cask is really something special," says Blend Master Thomas Michalski, founder and partner of Dresdner Whisky Manufaktur. "And the taste is impressive - especially when tasting the Hoflößnitz Cabernet Red and the 'Hoflößnitz' whisky at the same time, you can definitely recognise similar flavour components."
